Risk Assessment

From Monday 22nd June, we will begin to invite Year 10 students back into school for 'face to face support of their remote learning'.

Only Year 10 children who have had confirmation of their timetable should attend school.

The school has worked with the SDBE Multi Academy Trust and Carstens and Robinsons Ltd to put measures in place to reduce the potential risks from COVID-19.

Risk Measure

Potential for spread of COVID-19 between persons at school

  • Reduce class sizes (change classroom layout)/ limit number of students in school/ create ‘bubbles’
  • Introduce one way system in the corridors (with appropriate signage)
  • Student seating plans (allocated seat for school day)
  • Staff allocated a non teaching work station (and wireless keyboard and mouse to use in classroom)
  • Clear expectations for all staff and students
Potential for spread of COVID-19 between persons arising from travel to school or dropping / picking up at school
  • Key Workers to enter and leave school via front reception (8:30-3:10)
  • Year 10s to enter and leave school via back gate (10:00-1:30)
  • Supervised entry with clear markings to indicate social distancing
  • Hand sanitizers to be used on entry

Risks of spread of COVID-19 from providing first aid or care.

  • Designated First Aider for each ‘bubble’ provided with appropriate training, first aid kit and PPE
  • Clear protocol (in line with government advice)

Contamination of commonly used areas, including door handles, IT equipment and equipment used by multiple persons.

  • All doors kept open
  • All shared resources removed from classrooms/ workrooms (provision of a learning kit for all students)
  • Robust cleaning schedule to ensure regular cleaning
  • Hygiene kit to be provided in all classrooms/ work spaces
Contamination of food products and packaging from supply chain or from food preparation on site
  • Deep clean of food preparation areas
  • Checks with all suppliers to ensure relevant safety procedures are in place
  • Free School Meals to be delivered to classrooms (and eaten at desks)

Staff and pupils may be un-familiar with changes to fire safety or other emergency arrangements.

  • Revised emergency arrangements in place to reflect numbers on site; clarified to students and staff at start of every day
  • Assembly points marked on playgrounds (reflecting social distancing arrangements)

Issues relating to interrupted maintenance or inspection schedules whilst school has been closed or in limited use.

  • All inspections/ maintenance carried out before number of students increase
  • Restrictions to be put in place if any maintenance schedule has been disrupted

Safety of health issues relating to interrupted maintenance or inspection schedules whilst school has been closed or in limited use.

  • All inspections/ maintenance carried out before Year 10 students return
  • Restrictions to be put in place if any maintenance schedule has been disrupted (e.g. lifts)

Potential for spread of COVID-19 between persons at school showing symptoms of coronavirus or those who are confirmed to have coronavirus.

  • Anyone feeling unwell will be treated as a suspected COVID-19 case
  • Designated room for COVID-19 cases (to remain until arrangements made to go home)
  • Expectation for a test to be carried out before return to school
  • Collapse of any 'bubble' with a confirmed case
