Gifted and Talented Students in our school

At ATS, we are constantly trying to improve not only the attainment, but also the whole educational experience for all of our students. One strategy we employ to support this is our Gifted and Talented programme. Our Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator, Mr Gyves identifies, monitors and supports those students who will take part in the programme. The process of identifying the gifted and talented students takes place during the autumn term.

Support for students involves effective and appropriate teaching and learning styles, differentiated teaching materials and a vast array of trips and activities, often involving universities or top businesses.

Our Gifted and Talented students not only do well academically , but engage in experiences ( like spending the day at Cambridge University on a private tour with an Admissions Tutor) , which extend the boundaries of their aspirations.

Here is an update of the forthcoming Gifted and Talented events

Jack Petchey 'Speakathon' - 30 year 10 boys will take part in the annual public speaking competition organised by the Jack Petchey foundation. This will involve a day of 'in house training' from a qualified instructor. 3 boys will go on to represent the school in the Lambeth Regional final.

Lambeth nine high day - 20 year 9 boys will represent the school in Lambeth's annual event. The event aims to inspire and provide the boys with knowledge on possible routes into higher education, either through vocational or traditional university courses.

MUN Master Classes and conference. A group of year 9 boys will be off timetable to attend a conference which is aimed at replicating an actual United Nations conference. Each school represents a country, researches and debates a world issue such as poverty or Aids. ATS has been very strong in this competition over the past few years and we aim to maintain that proud record.

Common Purpose Leadership Scheme - Three boys from year 9 will be involved in this termly project to help boys become better leaders. Recent venues have been place like London's Crown Court.
